WWI WW1 US Army Dog Tag - Samuel Roy Widner - Lifelong Kansan Pittsburg KansasAccording to my research Samuel Roy Widner Sr. was born on September 15, 1894. Widner enlisted in the United States Army on May 8, 1918 and was discharged on January 24, 1919. Widner worked as a mechanic and in September 1918 he was stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas with C Company, 5th Training Battalion. After he was discharged, Widner remained in Kansas and lived primarily in South Eastern Kansas in towns such as Pittsburg, Baker, and Baxter Springs. He also lived in Pretty Prairie for a short time. Widner was married to Edna Dorcas (Baxter) Widner with whom he had three children: 1) Robert Harold "Hal" Widner, 2) Samuel Ray Widner Jr., and 3) Gene Allen Widener. Widner passed away on May 19, 1977 in Pittsburg, Kansas and was buried in the Highland Park Cemetery.
