    Description

    M1910 Hand Axe and Cover
Original WW1 US M1910 hand axe [hatchet] and cover, as follows:
Axe: Hardened tool steel head with slightly curved hard wood handle, head is simply marked U.S. with no other markings. Note the difference in head shape compared to the WW2 version [WW1 version is slightly smaller and more angular]. Head has traces of original black painted finish. Some wear to top end of handle where mounted to head [see photo], but no cracks or other damage.
Cover: Khaki canvas and web construction with blackened brass hardware. Original owner's name GOLDSTEIN and faint mfr markings CANVAS PROD. CO./NOV. 1918 marked on back. Front of cover has a faint, partial red ink stamped Boy Scouts logo. Average fading from use, some rust stains from axe head, and some barely noticeable fraying to edges of flap securing strap [does not affect overall appearance], otherwise undamaged.
Hatchet and cover are exactly as they were found at a North Texas antique market about 35 years ago. Nice piece for any collection of US GI field tools or WW1 web gear and is in good condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
