Description
In 1919 a new system was devised for marking field gear and equipment, which was to replace the need to stencil unit information on the material. Each piece of equipment would have one of these stamped with the unit information, and then the tines pushed through the web material. These tines were then bent over a metal washer for securing. This was a short-lived endeavor, as the stenciling of equipment was soon again common practice. The example featured here is a nice example of the M1919 equipment marking tag, with the crossed rifles indicating infantry. Looks to have never been used as there are no unit information stamped on the disc. No washer is present.
The disc remains in fine condition, showing signs of age, use, and wear. Please see the pictures for more detail.
Because of the fragile prongs, this will be mailed in a small Priority Mail box for protection.
