Description
While mining gold I often come across unusual fossils, most of which are really old and Marine in nature. This latest fossil found on July 25th 2021 appears to be an impression fossil of skin from a reptile or some kind of bone plates. The unusual surface appears Dull grey with the host rock being slightly darker beneath. Using a 30x loop I can see the surface of the individual tiles appear rigid in nature and are sligly uneven across each plate. If I had to make a guess I would think I found fossilized skin from an ancient turtle species. This is an amazing specimen regardless and was found buried on bedrock and unearthed while mining gold near Randsburg California.
