    M1910 Mess Kit--Unusual 1919 Date
    Original immediate post-WW1 M1910 mess kit [meat can], standard two piece aluminum construction with tin plated steel folding handle. Handle is well marked U.S./R.I.A./1919. Lid features aluminum pull ring [rather than nickel silver] which was characteristic of RIA production. Average scuff marks to finish from storage and a few scratches to inside of pan, otherwise no dents, rust or other damage.
    In over 40 years of dealing in military items, I've had well over 100 regular WW1 dated [1917-1918] mess kits--this is only the third one I've had dated 1919. Not sure why they were made, as there were millions of WW1-dated ones available for issue after the war, even considering those that were lost due to combat or other circumstances. Interesting piece for any US mess gear collection and is in fine condition. Any questions please feel free to ask.
