    Description

Up for bids is this antique original U.S. military canteen of the late 1800's - WWI period.  It is much like the M1878 canteen but much larger.  It measures 9-1/2" in diameter and is 3" thick at its center.  The body is covered in khaki duck canvas and the strap being more of a OD green canvas.  It has no typical spout ring, the chain being attached to a loop of wire through the metal cap, through the cork and bent outward, cotter pin style.
The spout is made of pewter. The body is magnetic and most likely tinned.  There is a small shallow dent on the lower front face and some staining on both sides.  Strap is in good condition with some rust on the buckle.  Lettering on cover may be for United States Marine Corps or United States Medical Corps.  Canteen is in overall very good, solid condition.   It was found at a flea market with no known history.
Will ship to U.S. addresses only.  Will ship by USPS Priority Mail.  Please ask any and all questions prior to bidding/buying.  Additional photos gladly sent upon request.  Thank you.
