INTERMEDIATE GIRL SCOUTS
1955 - 1959
This
Intermediate Girl Scout Badge is
TRAVELER
, and it is #4 or ME (Marrow Edged) with a dark green border.  This badge was introduced in 1955 in the covert fabric, and then was replaced with the Light Green fabric in 1960.   A FUN badge to earn, but Hard to Find until about 1960 when travel became more common.  This badge is in Excellent Used Condition with just a few sewing marks showing, no holes, and is over 65 years old.  Click on BADGES on the left of this page to see more.

Background Information on Intermediate Badges and Troop Crests from 1938 to 1963 roughly as follows
:
1.
1938-1947
: (SG) Silver Green fabric with extra material to “crimp” under before sewing.
a)
Comes in Black stitching on the back OR
b)
White stitching on the back. 1947 only.
2.
1948-1954
: (BMG) Comes with background ‘covert’ fabric of the Bright Medium Green Intermediate Uniform. Has extra material to “crimp” under before sewing. (Covert is a tweed-looking texture.)
3.
1954 Only
: (WCC) West Coast Cut or BMG Cut: Prototype Merrow Edged Badge. Same ‘covert’ fabric in front, but MUST have a cheesecloth backing. Much smaller in size than the next issue of badges. Border of DARK green thread is wider than 1955.

. 1955-1960
: (ME) Comes with the same ‘covert’ or speckled fabric with the edge of the badge sewn completely around in a small border of stitching.
a)
Comes with a Light Green border (thought to be leftover thread from the BMG badges,)
b)
and Dark Green border.
5.
1960-1963
: (LG) Background material changed to a Light Green fabric that matches the NEW 1963 Junior Uniform. There were THREE places the Intermediate designs were sent in 1963:
a) Design stayed exactly the same with a possible Name Change as a Junior Badge
b) Changed to a Cadette Level Badge with a bright YELLOW border.
c) Design Permanently Discontinued
