Size of Fossil Tortoise-  Approximately 17" in length, 12" in width(at widest measurement), & 6" in height
Data: Middle Oligocene, Brule Formation, Niobrara County, Wyoming
You are looking at an extremely rare "HEAVY & HUGE"  TESTUDO THOMSONI fossil Tortoise. This "heavy weight" tips the scale at just under 43 lbs.  It was excavated after being embedded in rock for approximately 35 to 40 million years.  This "beauty" was professionally "prepped" over (25) years ago by the White River Preparium. Please note that this TESTUDO SP. is much more rare than the genus STYLEMYS  commonly found on eBay, as well as on other fossil Internet websites. This fossil Tortoise displays in excellent condition and with a beautiful carapace replete with large scutes and a matching solid plastron.
The White River Preparium of Hill City, South Dakota was actively involved in the repair and restoration of "SUE" the Tyrannosaurus Rex. "SUE" is on permanent display at the Chicago Field Museum. They did all of the prep work on this TESTUDO SP., in addition to designing and fabricating the "custom-made" wood base that it sits on. An identification card and clear plastic holder will be included along with this authentic and beautiful Oligocene period fossil specimen.
