Description

Street Map Ban Do Chi Dan Saigon-Cholon 11 Quan's Bi-lingual Viet-Chinese-rare
You are looking at  a copy of the original rare map, we are offering to you now,
indicating points of interest in Saigon, in Vietnamese and Chinese language in the legend at bottom. The dimensions of the map are 8 1/2" x 11" .
The street names are of course in Vietnamese with some French names as well.
Cholon was (and still is) the Chinese section of Saigon, (now called Ho Chi Minh City)
This was  scanned in high resolution from the original, and printed on standard quality computer paper.
The original map itself was printed in Vietnam on very low grade, poor quality paper and
as you can see from this scan, yellowing with age. I doubt the original map even exists today.
The picture frame used to hold up the map is not part of the auction, but this map deserve to be framed and hung up in your home,
library or office wall-- to make a beautiful display- not to mention an interesting topic of conversation.
Personal Note:  Our family had a cafe/restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City years ago, and we had the idea to laminate this map and
use them for place-mats on our tables.  Problem was, they had a funny way of disappearing.
This map is an historical document and reference tool. Saigon has had its street names changed a number of times,
from the French Colonial Indochina period to the Fall of Saigon in 1975.
If you are an historian, old map collector, student of history, librarian perhaps, scholar of Vietnam or S.E.Asian history, possibly a veteran.
You'll likely not see a map presented quite like this again.
