pre-WWI Era US Army M1903 Canteen Strap Adapter - Marked: RIA 1905 - for US Pattern 1878 Canteen - Excellent Condition
Up for sale is a pre-WWI Era US Army M1903 Canteen Strap Adapter.  The strap is marked: RIA 1905.  The strap is used, please see photos for condition.  No rips or tears, no rust or pitting on the metal parts, nice clear markings on the canvas.  This strap replaced the leather shoulder strap, that was previously used for this canteen.  This strap permitted the canteen to be carried on the M1903 Canvas Cartridge Belt, via the grommets on the belt, rather than over the shoulder.  This strap had a short service life, as it was replaced with the introduction of the M1910 Canteen which was made to be carried directly on the Pistol or Cartridge Belts.  These are getting much harder to find in recent years.
