Description

Nanotyrannus Tooth
This nice
tooth comes from the "Pygmy Tyrannosaur", Nanotyrannus Lancensis.  Nanotyrannus was one of the smallest known and one of the last Tyrannosaurids.  Nanotyrannus was founded upon a well preserved, nearly complete skull with tightly articulated lower jaws.  Fossils from the large carnivore are found in the Hell Creek Formation of Montana.
This Nano tooth was found in two pieces.  A small piece of the root area was reattached and the fossil was then stabilized.  The Nano tooth has quite a bit of natural feeding wear on its tip and outer serration strip.  The Nanotyrannus tooth has nice detail and preservation with a dark brown to black coloration.  All around a nice example of a Nanotyrannus tooth.
The Nanotyrannus tooth measures:  9/16" of an inch wide on its side view by 1 5/16" inches in length.
This Nanotyrannus Lancensis tooth was dug out of a microsite in the Hell Creek Formation of Carter County, Montana.  The tooth was collected on private ranch land with the owner's permission.
