1918 U.S. Cavalry McClellan Saddle. Highly desirable saddle, with original Cavalry Shield. Clearly marked 1918. I've seen two examples of this saddle in museums over the years and this example is of better quality then either of them. Rare are example and a worthy addition to anyone's vintage saddle collection.

    McClellan Saddle History
The McClellan saddle was adopted by the US War Department in 1859 and remained standard issue, in various models, for the remaining history of the horse cavalry. The original M1859 version was the form used during the Civil War, and the design saw subsequent modifications. The saddle always remained recognizable as McClellan's design, which included cavalry and artillery models. In addition, a model for packers was introduced as the M1913.
During the American Civil War, many Confederate cavalrymen provided their own horses and civilian saddles.  But when Southerners' horses grew thin because of inadequate food supply, these saddles became painful to the bony withers of the horses. In 1863, the Confederate army issued the lighter and better-contoured McClellan saddle to its cavalry. Because leather was scarce in the South during the Civil War, many of the McClellan saddles had skirts of painted canvas.
    Payment
Payment is expected within three days of auction close. If you have questions as to what auction payment types are acceptable, please contact us.
    Shipping
Shipping usually is USPS Parcel or Priority, "unless stated otherwise" & will occur within five business days of receiving payment. Items shipping via "parcel select" are more economical, costwise but require longer shipping time. We typically ship quickly but have no control over USPS shipping times. Please be aware that our shipping costs are determined by USPS, via the Ebay Shipping Calculator. We simply enter the weight & the calculator determines the cost of shipping to your location.  Total shipping costs are shown on each auction. We do not profit on shipping costs. If you feel that the shipping costs are too high, simply don't bid. We strive for great customer service and quick shipment of your items, so please rate us accordingly. We may not be perfect but we are honest. If you have any further questions on shipping charges, please contact us.
    Terms of Sale
Almost all items sold by us are vintage and sold "as is". However, we do realize that condition issues can be accidentally overlooked by us or not described. If you have a concern about a item, please contact us before Ebay, as involving them is alot like inviting a elephant into a antique shop. In those instances where we feel a refund is warranted, buyer pays for return shipping.
All eBay bidders should inspect the property thoroughly by looking at all photographs to determine item condition. If the bidder is unable to view an item to their satisfaction, they are responsible for obtaining a condition report from me, or request additional photographs prior to bidding, to determine condition, size, etc. I endeavor to be very fair describing an items condition, however bidders should be aware that antique or vintage items often show signs of wear, which may be overlooked by me. This is why I often take more pictures then necessary, so you have the information on hand to make your own determination on visual condition. Heartwine_Sales, also has the right to reject any condition report or additional picture requests, if in my opinion, the value of the item for sale is not commensurate with the time necessary to complete such requests. Ultimately, if you have a question or concern, please contact me "before" bidding, as to avoid buyers remorse.  We are reasonable sellers and want to work with reasonable buyers. If you are not one of those "reasonable" people, then please do not bid on our items. I appreciate my customers and hope to do business again with you soon.
    Contact Us
