    Description

Lecture Notes-Magicians Guild of America-Clarke "The Senator" Crandall-1952--
(No Reserve-Bid & the Item Will Sell)
ITEM:  Lecture Notes, from the Magicians Guild of America, from a Clarke "The Senator" Crandall Lecture on March 3rd, 1952.  Consists of  14 pages, all text.  Crandall was a very funny man but took magic seriously. The first 8 pages contain NO TRICKS, but has some of the best advice to any who want to use magic to entertain.  He talks about table magic, bar magic, stage magic, etc., with details on how to present yourself as an entertainer in various situations.  As a performing magician, he is very funny. As a writer of magic, he also writes very funny, but he does take magic seriously.  Once you read these notes, that phrase will make better sense.  Since this was a lecture for magicians, he does offer some card magic, his sponge ball routine, milk on the head comedy effect, his Gwendolyn card duck routine, etc.
For Lecture Note collectors, this is one of a few sets of Magician's Guild notes that we have on ebay. This is a "stand alone" set of notes.  Text has full explanations so you did not have to be at the lecture to understand the effects
From Magicpedia, courtesy of Genii Magazine:
    Clarke "The Senator" Crandall
    (1907-1975) was
an American comedy magician and magic dealer. He developed funny routines for such effects as the
    Card Duck
    and the
    Cups and Balls
    .
Born on a farm in Iowa. Around 1954, Crandall was doing magic at George Banning's Magic Lounge in Cicero, one of the many bars featuring magic around Chicago. Then, he bought the "Studio of Magic" shop from
    Al Sharpe
in 1957, and ran it for two years before closing.
He became a host at the
    Magic Castle
, introducing the acts and fending off people who were improperly attired (there is a strict dress code). He was the original grumpy old man and his wit and sarcasm were accepted and expected by all. He would do a weekly X-rated show on Saturday nights at midnight.
    The
    Abbott's Get-Together
presents the "Senator Crandall Award" for comedy excellence each year.
