This is a textbook specimen of an ancient stromatolite. This is Conophyton sp. from the Precambrian of Bolivia. Authorities believe that stromatolites were formed by masses of green or blue-green algae, or ''cyanobacteria''. It is believed that this stromatolite is
2.2 to 2.4 billion years old!
This large, thick slice of stromatolite has been highly polished on one side for optimal display. The layered depositional pattern of this stromatolite is beautifully preserved. The different colors and unique banding pattern make for a striking exhibit. This is a very collectible example of a Conophyton stromatolite from the Southern Hemisphere.
A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this specimen. FREE SHIPPING in the USA!
