Description

Members of the Mosasaur family roamed the world's oceans and shallows during the late Cretaceous period, with fossilized remains having been found on every continent, including Antarctica.
Snakes and Monitor Lizards (such as the Komodo Dragon) are their closest living relatives.
Several distinct species of Mosasaurs have been identified, ranging from the size of a young Alligator (6-7 feet long) up to a terrifying potential of 40-50 feet in length (maybe more), longer than a T. Rex from nose to tail.  The MOSASAURUS was the largest of these.  Despite living during the "Age of the Dinosaurs", Mosasaurs are technically NOT considered to be Dinosaurs, instead referred to as "extinct, carnivorous, aquatic lizards".
Fresh off of its scene-stealing appearances in "Jurassic World", the Mosasaurus would have definitely enjoyed a meal of a shark or of a hapless, corporate babysitter.  However, it is EXTREMELY unlikely to have been able to put on such an acrobatic, leaping display to catch its meals or snacks, preferring instead to dine on fish, turtles, ammonites, and even smaller mosasaurids that swam closer to the surface.

These specimens were found in Morocco and are around 70 million years old.  Considering the extent of dental care available back then, these are truly spectacular specimens.  Let's hope YOUR teeth are in such good shape in 70 million years!
As much as a ruler and a quarter are included in each photo for reference, all measurements below are to the nearest 1/16th of an inch and are rounded down, NOT up.
Each earring within a set shares similar dimensions (unless otherwise noted), so an average set of measurements is given below.
The first measurement, length/height is measured from the top of the "capped setting" to the tip of the tooth and does not include the
ear wire or the loop to which each is attached
.  The second, width, is measured from side to side at the thickest part of the tooth (NOT the setting) while the third, thickness, is measured from front to back, again of the tooth itself, NOT the setting.
Each earring setting is custom made by hand, based on the individual specimen.  There can be a slight variation within the weights of each earring
.  As a result, the weights given are shown as the weight of the left/right earring as pictured.  There is not a single set where the difference between the two might be obvious.  There may be slight size and detail variations but nothing that is too obvious or mismatched.  The differences are the result of these being real live (well, DEAD!) fossils, not stamped out, manufactured reproductions.  Each earring is stamped 925 somewhere on it, either on the capped setting or on the ear wire itself (GOOD LUCK seeing that...use a GOOD magnifying glass!) to authenticate that these are Sterling Silver settings and some are also stamped Starborn on the cap.  All earrings have Sterling Silver french hook ear wires.
All photos were taken with 3 daylight, color-balanced, compact fluorescent
bulbs to provide even and consistent lighting results.  As a result, I have NOT had to adjust the brightness or contrast of the posted photos.  They do show the most accurate color and shading nuances.  However, the bright "hot spots" visible on the top on each side of the pendant's capped settings are the results of reflections from these lights.
