I lived in California for 35 years and we had a river house in Arizona we frequented on the weekends. My older neighbor and Rock Hound would take me to his secret locations to hunt for Coprolite. Several years ago my mother took two Specimens to the Los Angeles Natural History Museum to verify them as Coprolites. There she was escorted down the elevator to a Dinosaur processing room by two paleontologists. They both verified her pieces as Dinosaur Coprolite and showed her around the entire facility. They wanted her to leave her two Coprolites with the museum, but she declined at the time. I wish now that she would have left them at the Los Angeles Natural History Museum for research or display purposes.
I attended Lapidary classes at the local college after moving to Arizona 12 years ago. This is where the professor who teaches lapidary and jewelry making verified my specimens to be Coprolite. In class there were students making jewelry from their Dinosaur Coprolite. Several Rock clubs both local and out of state come to this part of Arizona to search for Dinosaur Coprolite. I have included the blog information below if you wish to view.

Colorado River Coprolites
Coprolite is fossilized excrement of animals. This specimen was found in the state of Arizona. Preserved under unique conditions over millions of years ago. A typical specimen weighs a few ounces up to several pounds. These Coprolites found in Arizona are very smooth from tumbling through the canyons and valleys over many years. The colors and patterns are all similar, but each rock maintains its own beauty by color and design.
A coprolite is a type of trace fossil and can vary in size from the tiny piles of excreta from a worm that lived some 500 million years ago to the large droppings of crocodiles, dinosaurs or mammals. Typical sizes vary from less than 5 mm (0.2 inches) to 5 cm (2 in), although they may exceed 30 cm (12 inches) in length. There is a large variety of shapes: cigar-shaped, lens-shaped, kidney-shaped, cone-shaped, round, oval, cylindrical and spiral-shaped, depending upon the type of animal which produced them.  Analysis of coprolites by archaeologists can provide information on the diet and health of a study subject.
The recognition of coprolites is aided by their structural patterns, such as spiral or annular markings, by their content, such as undigested food fragments and by associated fossil remains. The smallest coprolites are often difficult to distinguish from inorganic pellets or from eggs. Most coprolites are composed chiefly of calcium phosphate, along with minor quantities of organic matter.
