See thiswagon on YouTube at https://youtu.be/JaV59fLCrlUWe purchasedthis fabulous Amish made double side board covered wagon in 2011 in anun-sanded or finished condition. After getting it home we took it to our wood /finish shop and completely took it apart and made it even better.
We “Use”this wagon so I wanted to make sure that all the components were of the rightsize for the way we use our wagons, sometimes in rough country and roads. TheBolster support / placement wagon bottom boards were a little undersized so weremoved them and fabricated and installed larger ones. This is good if you everget into rough country; your wagon box will stay in place better.
We alsoadded large Oak extended wagon box Center Bars (bottom supports). They also areheavy enough to carry your Oak Water Barrel or Feed Box, one on each side withincluded Body Braces.
We added asecond wagon Spring Seat to match the first and then added Tie Clips to holdthe seats in place while driving, especially on rough terrain. We also added afoot rest for the second Wagon Spring Seat for the passengers. We felt thefront Toe Board where driver and rider place their feet was too small so wemade a larger one and fabricated two new Toe Board Supports.
The wagonhas the required Box Side Supports but we felt there was still too muchmovement side to side when traveling rough ground so we added 8 Ga steel “Z”brackets to the top of both the Bottom Side Board and Top Side Board for superrigidity, painted. The Top Box Board can be removed if the Owner desires todrive the wagon with one Box Board instead of a deep two Box Board Wagon; eachone has its own Longitudinal “Z” supports.
We removedthe Canvass Cover Tie Down Hooks (modern store bought supplied) and replacedthem with hand forged by Blacksmith style that would have come on this wagon ifbuilt in the 1880’s era.
Since thisis a using / working wagon, we had the Amish maker install Hydraulic Brakedrums in the rear and the metal brake lever is a side lever foot pedal with thehydraulic cylinder and reservoir located in the front wagon box floor; here wewanted safety over the original 1880’s style wooden brakes.
The reardouble box gate can be removed by first removing the Box Rods, this is forloading and unloading and for the addition of a Chuck Box to the rear of thewagon to make it a Chuck Wagon.
If you’veever driven a wagon with Steel Tires (steel rim) you will know how loud theycan be on gravel or rocky surfaces along with asphalt, so we had hard rubberTires installed on this wagon, wonderful!! We’re also not into lubing the old Servinstyle axles so we had the Amish maker use Archibald Wheel Bearing Axles, alsogreat.
The Oak Wagon Bows can be removed easily ifyou want to drive your wagon without the canvass top installed. We’ve driven itevenly in both cases; enjoy it with and without the top for driving.
After allthe above work was complete, we sanded every piece of wood and applied anexterior stain / finish to all parts, all metal parts have been primed andpainted black.
The wagoncomes with a Drop Pole in both Horse and Draft size. We’ve also fabricated removablelarge pole hooks that hang under the wagon on the Reach to carry the Poleyou’re using underneath the wagon instead of on the floor of your barn. Etc.The one you don’t use can be stored elsewhere as you prefer. The wagon comescomplete with Double Tree and Neckyoke with the Pole having a safety style PoleStrap, (Helps to make sure the Neckyoke doesn’t come off and cause a wreck).
This hasproven to be a fabulous wagon to drive and use, we know you ’ed enjoy owningand driving it too. Delivery may be available, please ask for information.
