I received a question (7/23/2021) from a potential buyer asking if I tested the light up marquee to see if it interfered with the operation of the “light” guns.
Below was my response:
Thanks for the message – great question.
The short answer is “no”.
Since I was planning on reselling the Big Buck World cabinet once I finished the final design of the light up marquee, I wanted to leave as much of the parts in the original packaging, and only assembled the cabinet to the point where I could take measurements, etc.
Thank you for bringing this to my attention.
I will plan on “testing” the operation of the cabinet with the light up marquee installed.
I tested the game this afternoon (7/24/2021) with the light up marquee ON and illuminated.
I did notice the “Avoid bright lights and reflected light on the screen” warning on the opening screen, which gives reason to why a light up marquee might be problematic.
I conducted the test with the overhead room lights off.
Once I figured out the basic operation of the controls, I recalibrated both “guns” and tried out several games.
The light guns worked great, especially when entering high scorer initials where you have to “hit” the proper letters.
The BONUS rounds also were a good test for the light guns, which all when well.
The light up marquee was on and illuminated the whole time, so I consider the results of this test “successful”.
I therefore have relisted both the PROTOTYPE and the curved top version with this updated information.
History:
As an owner of several of these cabinets, I had a desire to equip them with backlit marquees, just as the vintage originals.
After viewing online modifications with inferior designs, damaged cabinets, and undesirable results, I set out to build my own.
One requirement I established before starting was to make it a simple remove-and-replace design, with the capability to easily restore the original marquee at any time, returning the cabinet back to “stock” condition.
I personally designed, engineered, milled, and fabricated the entire marquee.
I also created the additional portions of the marquee graphics necessary to fill in the extra wide viewable area of the marquee design.
Sourced from a local supplier, the marquee graphic was printed on backlit film and applied to a sized piece of plexiglass.
Design Information:
After months of trial & error, development, and design, now available is a light up marquee for Arcade1up’s Big Buck World.
I was drawn to design this light up marquee since it was the only new Arcade1up release that did not have a lit marquee as part of the original package.
After developing a prototype with a “cut” straight top profile, the final design has a curved top like the original marquee – very challenging.
It’s twice as big as a regular Arcade1up marquee and has 3 rows of LED’s instead of a single row.
Finally, Arcade1up enthusiasts now have an option to light up their Big Buck cabinets!

Special note
: If you are uncomfortable, unwilling, or unable to use simple power and hand tools (electric drill & screwdriver), I would discourage you from purchasing this item, since it does require some installation.
I will include an illustrated instruction booklet which includes some simple tips and insights I gained in building my earlier prototypes.

Marquee Art Graphic:
The Big Buck World image has been printed on vinyl backlit film and applied to a sheet of plexiglass.
This
marquee comes as a single unit and replaces the original marquee.
It has a pair of reflective metal sheets to help equalize and disperse the illumination given off from three separate rows of LED light strips.
The LED light strips in the marquee are powered by the 12-volt DC “LIGHT BULB” receptacle found on the back of the Arcade1up LCD screen.
The cable that is attached to the marquee itself has a reducer male plug adapter connected to the end to make the connection to the 12-volt DC “LIGHT BULB” socket.
The Installation Manual includes wiring diagram.
Overview of Installation
(installation details are included in the installation booklet that will be included with this item):
To install, the cabinet will need to be disassembled to the point when the original marquee was inserted.
It would be helpful to view the original assembly manual, if available.
The screws and white angle clip as well as the marquee face Panel “B” and associated dowel pins will need to be removed from the marquee area.
DO NOT remove Panel “M” and its forward-facing aligning dowel pins, just the marquee face and angled plastic clip.
Disassembly is the recommended procedure for removal of the marquee face since the dowel pins “lock” the marquee face in place until there is enough room to withdraw the side panel(s) in order to remove Panel “B”.
I feel that this step is the most challenging in the whole installation process.
After the face Panel “B” is removed, the cabinet can be reassembled.
To install, position the marquee over the top angled panel by “hanging” the marquee, inserting the front edge of the top panel into the slotted opening on the back of the marquee.
Pivot Panel “M” upward to engage the two forward facing dowel pins protruding from Panel “M” into the mating holes found on the base of the marquee, and gently persuade the protruding dowel pins into the corresponding holes on the base of the marquee.
After the marquee is positioned properly, two holes will need to be drilled through the side panel holes for screws to secure the marquee in place.
I found that I had to "custom fit" the marquee with each installation, and therefore, I did not pre-drill the marquee.
The existing “marquee” holes found on the side panels of the cabinet are used as drilling locations, with the drill bit carefully placed through these holes to pilot the screw holes into the marquee frame.
Once the holes are drilled, the screws (provided) are used to anchor the marquee into position and complete the installation process.
Although this listing may show photos or portions of Arcade1up game cabinets, no Arcade1up cabinet(s) are included or are part of this listing.
This was done to give buyers a visual idea of what the marquee would look like post-installation.
The photo of the back top panel is intended to give a visualization of how the panel meets the rear cut angle of the marquee.
The “VISUAL REFERENCE” photos are for illustrative purposes, and the items in these photos are NOT part of this listing.
Also, the orange prop strip seen in photos is used for photographic purposes and is not part of this listing as well.
Since this item will need to be self-installed and involves buyer drilling into marquee, the buyer assumes ALL risk with the installation and there is NO REFUND and NO RETURN on this listing once buyer receives this item via USPS.
Buyer also assumes all responsibility for damage done to the marquee or to the buyer’s arcade cabinet during the installation process.
